One-piece Guedel airways

By using the latest manufacturing technology Intersurgical has produced the first major breakthrough in Guedel airway design for thirty years.

Combining two materials with very different physical characteristics into one moulding, our One-piece design eliminates the separate bite block found in all conventional Guedel airways.

Loose or detached bite blocks constitute a real threat to patient safety and have been the subject of several hazard notices in the past. Our One-piece design overcomes all of the associated risks.

As well as improved safety, the One-piece Guedel airway also incorporates a soft tip reducing the risk of trauma to the patient. We also offer a sterile option, providing a further choice.

ISO 5364:2016 – Colour coding guidance

In the most recent version of ISO 5364:2016 Anaesthetic and Respiratory Equipment – Oropharyngeal Airways, a new colour coding requirement was implemented, aiming to improve patient safety and provide consistency across products from different manufacturers.

In order to comply with the colour coding system specified in ISO 5364:2016, it was necessary for Intersurgical to update four sizes of Guedels. The sizes that have changed are as follows:

• ISO size 9.0; from Orange to Yellow
• ISO size 7.0; from Yellow to White
• ISO size 6.5; from White to Brown
• ISO size 3.5; from Pink to Light Green

Each department will need to consider locally how this change will be implemented as it may take time for existing stock to be used.
